Frequency refers to the number of repetitions of the alternating signal in unit time. The basic unit of frequency is Hertz, the symbol Hz, which represents one complete cycle per second. It is not difficult to understand that if the frequency is too high, it may cause fatal damage to some machines that cannot be heated too quickly. That is, some special workpieces are not suitable to use high-frequency induction hardening and tempering equipment.

As per different frequency, induction hardening and tempering equipment can be divided into 5 series including ultra-high frequency induction, high frequency, super audio, intermediate frequency, power frequency. Here we use hardening as an example to introduce the use of various frequency range for induction hardening and tempering equipment.

1 The frequency of the current used by the UHF induction hardening and tempering equipment is as high as 27 MHz, and the heating layer is extremely thin, only about 0.15 mm. It is suitable for thin surface hardening of complex workpieces such as circular saws.

2 The frequency of the current used in high-frequency induction hardening and tempering equipment is usually 200 to 300 kHz, and the depth of heating layer is 0.5 to 2 mm. It is used for surface quenching of parts such as gears, cylinder liners, cams, and shafts.

3 The frequency of the current used by the supersonic audio induction hardening and tempering equipment is generally 20-30 kHz. The heating layer is distributed along the tooth profile, and the quenching performance is better.

4 The frequency of the current used in the medium frequency induction hardening and tempering equipment is generally 2.5 to 10 kHz, and the depth of the heating layer is 2 to 8 mm. It is mostly used for the surface quenching of workpieces with large modulus gears, large diameter shafts, and cold roll.

5 The frequency of the power frequency induction hardening and tempering equipment is 50-60 Hz, and the depth of the heating layer is 10-15 mm. It can be used for the surface quenching of large workpieces.
